Frequently asked questions
Can acupuncture help me?
Symptoms appear when the body isn’t able to bring itself back into equilibrium. Acupuncture works with the body’s meridian system to clear accumulated tension and bring nourishment to areas of weakness. When the meridian circulation is clear and flowing, the body’s self-healing capacity is restored and symptoms / issues dissipate. Because the channel system circulation is connected to every aspect of the body/mind/spirit, acupuncture is able to effectively treat a wide range of issues - no matter where they show up.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are hair-thin and do not cause pain. They are completely different than the familiar needles of your Western Doctor. While resting during your treatment, you may feel some sensation- such as heaviness, aching, tingling or warmth, but it should not be bothersome. Most people find the treatments deeply relaxing, some even fall asleep.
What can I expect from my first treatment?
The initial visit includes a detailed health history conversation and a full treatment. During the intake conversation, we will discuss the primary reason for your visit as well as additional details about your health and lifestyle. Melissa will gather more information by looking at your tongue, taking your pulse as well as palpating certain channels on your arms and legs. She will synthesize all of this information and determine a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. In addition to the acupuncture, Melissa may recommend herbal prescriptions, nutritional supplements and/or lifestyle suggestions to complete the treatment.
Do you accept insurance?
Although Melissa is not able to accept insurance for payment, she will provide you with a receipt with the necessary billing codes, so you can submit directly to your provider for reimbursement. If your health plan includes a Flex Spending or Health Savings Account, those funds can be used to pay for treatments.
