About Melissa

Melissa Rathbone has been working in the alternative medicine field for over 2 decades.  In 2003, she earned her Master’s Degree in Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Pacific College in New York City and began her private practice as a licensed acupuncturist and board certified herbalist. From 2003 - 2009, Melissa traveled to China 5 times to study with Dr Wang Ju Yi, a master practitioner and teacher of Classical Chinese Medicine and Applied Channel Theory.

Melissa continues her study of Classical Chinese Medicine to this day - studying the Complement Channels with Ann Cecil-Sterman, Classical Chinese Herbal Medicine with Sharon Weizenbaum and Sa’am Acupuncture with Toby Daly.

Melissa’s initial interest in Chinese Medicine and East Asian approaches to health started in 1993 at the Swedish Institute where she trained to become a licensed massage therapist. She had a private massage therapy practice for many years and integrates those skills and knowledge into her practice today.

Melissa holds a BFA in dance from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Her years as a professional dancer and her 15+ years as a pilates student of Kathy Grant deeply inform her understanding of the body’s physiology, physical strength and movement.

suite 1009

Peaceful loft space in the Flatiron district

Suite 1009, opened by Melissa in 2019, is a small boutique office space and home to the practices of a few dedicated acupuncturists. With large windows in every treatment room, the office is bright and spacious with a genuine NYC loft style.

In consideration of the ongoing presence of Covid-19, we are continuing with certain protocols in order to minimize the risk of exposure and to allow our space to continue to be a place of calm and healing. We re-opened in June of 2020 and we are pleased to say that to date there has been zero transmission traced to our office.

Please contact Melissa if you have any questions or concerns.
